How To: Adjust your MR-03
Front Suspension Upper Arm Mount
REVOLUTIONARY. Perhaps the best word to describe
the design of our Upper Arm Mount. With Adjustable
Camber, Caster and Roll Centers, for both W and
Narrow Settings all in a very affordable package. |
To ajust your front suspension all that is
needed is the adjustment camber key and your
upper arm pins. ANd of course, your MR-03. |
If you look at the key, each of the 4 ends has a
different set of 2 holes. The inside ones are for N
setting, the outside for W. Also if you notice each
of the 4 sides has a different number of dots. What
do these mean? You guessed it! Camber settings. Each
side has a different measurement of 0, 1, 2 and 3 degrees
of camber.
Install the upper arm pins in the setting
of your choice. Make sure you torque them down well
enough so that they do not move. In this picture we
are selecting the 1 degree Wide setting.
Loosen up all 4 screws slightly so that
the sliding upper arms can be moved with ease.
Insert each upper arm pin through the
mount holes and line it up to the key hole in the center.
This is a view of the back.
Torque down the inside screws fairly
tight. It helps if you use loctite as well.
Now tighten the outside screws as well.
Use a good amount of force in order to clamp the upper
arms to keep them from moving. Be careful not to strip
the screw boss on the chassis though.
Your Camber is now adjusted, but we
will show you a few more cool features about our adjustable
upper arm mount on the following images! :) |
The upper arm base can be rotated 180
degrees. In the position above, the car would have 2
degrees of static caster. This setting makes the car
more aggressive going into the corners, but it reduces
a little bit of steering in the exit of the corner.
It also reduces a bit of high speed steering.
When installed like above, the car
ends up with 4 degrees of static caster. In this setting,
your car will have more high speed steering, it will
gain stability and middle and exit steering. This is
our favorite setting, the only thing is that the standard
cantilever spring set-up does not work. You must install
the reflex extra-long kingpins (part no. RX1147). |
By installing shims underneath the Upper Arm mount,
you can effictively raise the roll center of your
front suspension. This is a very valuable tuning aid
when you need to find "in-between" spring
rates. It essentially changes the leverage point of
the front arms making the suspension act "stiffer"
and it also removes body roll.
If you ever have trouble with traction rolling with
your MR-03, try raising the front roll center about
0.2-0.4mm. Chances are, your traction rolling problems
will go all away!
