With the endurance race coming up this weekend, I thought
it would be nice to compose a quick checklist of things
to do before your car hits the track. While the pre-race
libations may help with my driving skills, it does nothing
for my pit work or race prep. I’m usually the
biggest bonehead come race day, so this list is really
more for me than anyone else. I hope you guys find it
useful as well.
1) Check your batteries. Are the battery clips secure? Next pack on charge?
2) Check your tires. Are they secure? Retape them if
necessary.
3) Check your suspension for binding. Are the motor
wires hitting the body?
4) Check your tweak. Shim if necessary.
5) Check your wheelnuts, but do not overtighten.
6) Check your screws, especially metal-to-metal contacts.
7) Check your motor. Make sure you didn’t use
too much Motor Hooch.
8) Check your traction compound. Make sure you wipe
off any excess.
9) Check your frequency. Are you on your assigned channel?
Tx/Rx match?
10) Check your attitude. Being fast is about controlled
aggression.
Well there it is, my top 10 list of silly things that
can screw up my race. Tape it to your pit box, radio,
body, forehead, whatever. Good luck and see you at the
track!
