How To: Mount your 1/28
scale tires properly
|
 |
 |
Nowadays, rubber tires for 1/28 scale vehicles
have gotten so soft that no longer is the tire
tape we have used previously enough to attach
the tires to the wheel. Softer tires deflect more
(flex more) and without being attached properly,
cause strange handling characteristics as well
as premature wear.
With the higher grip achieved by these newer
tires, such as our very own SSG's higher corner
speeds are achieved, which in turn cuase the tire
to fold under the wheel if not attached properly.
With that in mind we wanted to show you how we
mount our tires to our plastic wheels, in order
to achieve maximum performance and durability. |

 |
To mount your tires properly, you need the
proper materials. In the Picture above, we show
you what that is.
1.Reflex Racing SSG2WD tires- simply the best
tire there is :P
2.Plastic Mini-Z Wheels
3.PN Racing Tire Tape
4.High grade Cyano-Acrylate glue (a.k.a. CA or
Super glue )
5.X-acto Knife
|
|
 |
Start off by taping the wheel. Try to get the tape
all the way back to the wheel ridge. This will allow
for there to be a little bit of wheel left uncovered
with tape towards the outside of the car. This is where
the Super glue will adhere the tire to the wheel properly.
|
 |
Notice in the picture how we have a little bit of
wheel left on the outside. We used the X-acto knife
to cut the tape as close as is possible without overlapping.
|
 |
Next pull the tape wrap off and mount the tire on.
Make sure you massage and work the tire on so that it
is as even as is possible. the grooves on the SSG should
be straight and the tire should be round when looking
at it from the side.
|
 |
Look at the perfectly mounted SSG. Looks, nice uniform
and round.
|
 |
Next use a fine-tip applicator to work the CA into
the wheel. Use your fingers to separate the tire from
the wheel slightly and allow the glue to seep in and
bond the tire to the wheel not only on the bead, but
also on the inside, untaped edge. Properly bonding a
tire will allow you you glue the tire only once. This
will make your tire last longer and perform much better.
(You can't see our fingers seperating the bead because
there was only one person shooting the pics :P )
|
 |
This is what the tire should look like after glueing.
Notice how there is no excessive glue on the side wall
of the tire. This is a rear tire, so the less glue on
the rear side-wall, the more lateral grip the car will
generate.
|
 |
The back of the tire does not need to be glued as
heavily. This side of the tire is always going away
from the slide on the heavy load side, so all you need
to do is run a thin bead of glue around the edge of
where the tire meets the wheel.
|
 |
No need to separate the tire from the wheel here.
See how we only glued around the bead?
Obvioulsy, there is no need to mention that the procedure
needs to be done on both tires... |
 |
| There you are! You are done. Gluing your tires to your
wheels will make a HUGE difference to your car's performance.
It will drive smoother, have more consistent and better
grip and your tires' durability will be maximized. It
is essential that this is done to ALL of our SSG tires
to ensure MAXIMUM performance and DURABILITY. Sure you
might not be able to re-use your wheels that many times
(or sometimes at all), but to quote Sir Joseph Chen (a.k.a.
Dirte' Ruf) "Wheels are cheap, Victory is Rare"... |
